Various Names of Alquran
Discussing about names, of course we will be faced with the nickname, designation, title, and or arguably another name outside of the original name that is already attached to an object.
The Quran also has other names outside its own name. Here are the various names of the Alquran – various Koranic designations.
Quran means “reading”, it is a masdar form of the word q-r-a (qara’a). If you want to trace it, the use of word Alquran is mentined in verses 17-18 letters (75) al Qiyamah, verse 88 letter (17) al Isra ‘, verse 85 letter (2) al Baqarah, verse 87 letter (15) al Hijr, verse 2 letter (20) Thaaha, verse 6 letter (27) an Naml, verse 29 letter (46) al Ahqaf, verse 77 letter (56) al Waqiah, verse 21 letter (59) al Hasyr, and verse 23 letter (76 ) ad Dahr.
You can trace this second name of the Alquran and find it in verse 2 of the letter (2) al Baqarah, and see also in verse 114 letter (6) al An’am.
Al-Furqaan means “differentiator”. It means to distinguish between right and vanity. You can trace the name “al Furqaan” and find it in verse 1 letter (25) al Furqaan, which reads:
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا
Meaning: Most holy is Allah who has revealed Al Furqaan (Alquran) to His servants, so that he becomes a reminder to all nature.
- Adz Dhikr
Adz dzikr means “warning”, the name “Adz Dhikr” is mentioned in verse 9 letter (15) al Hijr, which reads:
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
Meaning: Indeed, we are the ones who lower adz Dhikr (the Qur’an), and indeed We truly maintain it.
In other places, the name “adz Dzikr” can also be found in verse 44 letter (16) an Nahl, which reads:
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِ ۗ وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ ٱلذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
Meaning: Information (miracles) and books. And We send unto you adz Dhikr (Qur’an), so that you explain to mankind what has been revealed to them and that they think.
Of the four names above, the most famous and distinctive name is Alquran. Apart from the names mentioned above, there are actually a variety of names from the Alquran. Imam As Suyuthy in his book Al Itqan mentions other names of the Quran, including: al Mubiin, al Kariim, an Nuur.
